This mid-century modern kitchen remodel near Lynden in Whatcom County was designed to create a more open, functional, and welcoming main living space. The homeowners loved their new property, including the space it offered for their horse, but wanted the home to better reflect their style and support the way they live and entertain.

To bring their vision to life, we removed a wall between the kitchen, living room, and dining room to create an open-concept layout that connects the main gathering areas. Because the wall was structural, a new support beam was added to the ceiling to keep the home sound while allowing the spaces to flow together.

During the remodel, we discovered that the house had originally been cut in two and moved from Bellingham to its current location near Lynden. As a result, the floors and ceiling were not evenly aligned and needed to be leveled before the new LVP flooring and cabinetry could be installed.

The finished kitchen blends clean mid-century modern lines with warm, functional details. Blonde rift white oak cabinetry with a slim Shaker door style gives the space a timeless MCM feel, while quartz countertops with warm and cool veining add movement and visual interest. The same quartz was carried behind the range for a beautiful, durable backsplash feature.

Every detail was planned with storage, function, and entertaining in mind. The kitchen includes a pot filler over the range, a roll-out spice rack, a microwave drawer, and an integrated dishwasher that blends seamlessly with the cabinetry. A mix of bold black cabinet pulls and knobs adds contrast and completes the mid-century modern design.

The result is a bright, open, and highly functional kitchen remodel that feels connected to the rest of the home while reflecting the homeowners’ love of mid-century modern style.
