This modern black Shaker kitchen remodel in Ferndale, WA gave the existing kitchen a bold, refined update while maintaining the original layout. The goal was to improve storage, function, and everyday usability while creating a dramatic design with clean lines and strong contrast.

Black-stained maple Shaker cabinets bring depth and sophistication to the space, while white quartz countertops and a matching quartz backsplash create a bright, seamless contrast. The quartz continues up the wall for a clean, uninterrupted look that feels both modern and timeless.

To make the kitchen more functional, we incorporated custom storage solutions throughout the space. Roll-out cabinets, hidden island storage, and two tall roll-out pantry cabinets replaced the traditional closet pantry, improving accessibility and keeping everyday items easier to organize.

The island is a standout feature, topped with black-and-white veined quartz and designed with an overhang for casual seating. A microwave built into the island adds convenience while helping keep the main countertops clear.

Under-cabinet lighting and outlets were added to preserve the clean look of the quartz backsplash while improving task lighting for food prep. A custom open shelving area with wine storage provides a personalized display space and adds function tailored to the homeowner’s lifestyle.
