A warm, colorful kitchen designed for gathering, hosting, and everyday comfort. This Moroccan-inspired kitchen remodel in Bellingham, WA was designed for a homeowner who loves to host. The goal was to create a beautiful, highly functional kitchen with plenty of room for gathering, storage, and everyday use.

To make better use of the existing layout, we incorporated the underused formal dining room into the kitchen design, transforming it into a dry bar and buffet area with a wine fridge and roll-out wine storage. This created a beautiful and practical serving space for entertaining guests.

Around the range, we removed a bulky brick arch that felt dated and limited storage. Opening up that area allowed us to add upper cabinets and create a cleaner, more functional layout. Hand-painted tile behind the range became a standout focal point, bringing in the Moroccan-inspired style the client loved.

Emerald green backsplash tile with varying depths was installed throughout the kitchen to add color, texture, and visual interest. Hickory cabinets in a cocoa stain brought warmth to the space—so much so that the client described them as feeling like “a warm hug.”

Function was considered in every detail. The kitchen includes cabinet roll-outs, a roll-out trash and recycling cabinet, a roll-out spice rack, a microwave drawer, and a tall pantry for additional storage. The peninsula includes an overhang for seating, creating another casual gathering spot.

To make the kitchen feel more open and connected, part of the wall between the kitchen and living room was removed. A large window was also added above the dry bar and buffet area to bring in natural light.

The finished kitchen is warm, inviting, and ready for entertaining, blending Moroccan-inspired design with smart storage, improved flow, and everyday functionality.
