This sage green transitional kitchen remodel in Bellingham, WA transformed a small kitchen into a functional space with big personality. When the homeowners purchased their new home, they loved its charm but wanted to improve the kitchen layout, flow, and connection to the surrounding living spaces.

Because the kitchen sits at the center of the home, we kept it in place while reworking the layout to better support everyday use and entertaining. Part of a wall was removed to open the kitchen to the adjacent spaces, creating better flow for hosting and gathering.

Seating was added on the opposite side of the kitchen, providing a casual spot for meals, conversation, and entertaining guests. The range was moved to the other side of the kitchen, and a retractable ceiling hood was installed to maintain an open sightline between the kitchen and breakfast nook.

To keep the kitchen connected to the formal dining room, we used upper peninsula cabinets with glass doors. This added storage without fully blocking the view between the two spaces.

The homeowners loved the natural, rustic character of knotty alder cabinetry. Pairing the warm wood tones with sage green cabinets gave the kitchen a fresh, updated look with an urban twist. The finished kitchen feels charming, functional, and full of personality while making better use of the heart of the home.
